About Blank Canvas

Formed in 2005 by actor Tim Casey and musician Emily Thyne, Blank Canvas is a company devoted to the presentation of familiar works in an unusual and challenging manner, fusing theatre with music and sound design.

Tim Casey is noted for his interpretations of Shakespeare and has broad experience in theatre, film and television.

Emily Thyne is a classical violinist known for her work with the Crash Ensemble and for having been a member of both the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the RTE Concert Orchestra.

Blank Canvas' first presentation was a union of the words of Shakespeare's sonnets with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach performed at the Cobalt Cafe in Dublin.

The founding pair were joined in 2006 by award-winning soundtrack composer Paul McDonnell to prepare for the presentation of "Diary of a Madman" at the 2006 Dublin Fringe Festival.

The merging of talents and disciplines crafts a unique performance which aims to be faithful to the intent of the authors, while at the same time lending a commercial sensibility to entertaining those who see it.
